Reflection Of This Year 2014

2014 is now nearly over, sadly! It has been a bumpy roller coaster ride for me. But overall it was very fun  and exciting! My teachers were Mr.Barks, Mrs.Nua, Ms.Paget and help from Ms.Va'afusuaga. My favourite part of this year was probably year 8 camp, it was very fun ! The highlights of this year were probably the year 8 camp, the art gallery and at the start of the year at the Point England Beach picnic. Did you know class 1 never stayed in the same class room for a term! In term 1 we were at the junior block. In term 2 we were in the street. In term 3 we had our own class room. then in term 4 we had Class 5 Class 1 and the street!! Overall this year was very fun and im going to miss Point England ALOT! But I am also looking forward to college!

Camp

Camp was a very great experience because I got to spend time with the boys and I got closer to everyone in my year. I loved the walk it was like an adventure or one of those Bear Grylls trips through the wilderness. Our cabins were really cold it had a concrete floor and about a 2m width.

On the night before we left for Marsden bay camp I couldn't sleep I was so excited. The morning came I woke up at 7am ready to go.  My dad drove me to school with my cousin Christian (who also is in the same year as me and was coming to camp). We said our goodbyes to our family  and had to go into the hall. One by one Mrs.Nua checked if everyone was here. "100 percent attendance", the bus' arrived , "Yo, Shayne me and you sit next to each other" ,I said. He replied with a nod.

We packed our bags onto the bus and off we went, for the first 10 to 20 minutes it was fun talking with Shayne listening to music,  then I got tired and all I could hear was Henry arguing with all the girls. I told him to be quite, but then I ended up just joining the argument. Finally I just drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up and we stopped to get out of the bus, I thought we were there but just then we were stopping to go on a 2 hour hike!! First we had to cross a river, with a buddy . Mine was Jonathan. He was scared  of the water so I had to piggy bank him across, 'SPLASH' I slipped on a rock we both fell in, after that we walked the whole tramp soaked.

The food there was great, on the first night we had roasted potato's, beef, and vegetables and I forgot the rest, But it was delicious. But my favorite was the burgers. But unfortunately I didn't eat the desert.

Overall I loved camp, it was good bonding with my peers and spending more time with the boys. The activities was fun but I didn't get to do Archery. My Favorite part of camp was the Camp fire it was fun and really really warm!!

Where Does South American Chicken Come From.

Do you like to eat KFC chicken? Now that I have got your attention, did you know the chicken of South America originated from Polynesia. Because of the Polynesian voyages  to South America in the Pre-Colombian ages ( which is the times before the explorer Christopher Columbus made the discovery of North America). The evidence of this is that  the bone structures of the Polynesian chicken and south American chicken  were similar.

Cross Country Writing

Bang! The loud sonic boom from the two planks of wood startled me. It was time to see if our training for cross country 2014 has paid off! I could feel a little shake in my legs. After a while I got back on track, continuing to run my hardest. I pumped my legs furiously . Running around the corner I accidentally slipped, but I got back into a good position. I ran my hardest to the gate and caught up to my friends Rocky, Shayne, Isaiah, Jacob and Antonio. We started to jog together as a group.

“HHUU UGGH,” I was breathing heavily by the end of the race. My boys Rocky, Shayne, Isaiah, Jacob, Antonio and I all came last together. Although we came last we ran our hardest.

Life Education Notes

Drugs are one of the most common committed crimes around the world, and at the life education caravan we are learning the effects. We learn about a few peoples life who has either died or been affected by illegal drugs.

One of the lines that Lynn (our teacher) had said was ‘Drugs don't choose people, people choose drugs’ and ‘All drugs are medicines but not all drugs are drugs’. There are different reason people, some people do it because of peer pressure and others do it to be cool. Did you know  if you do drug’s from the age of 12 to 25 years old than you will not have a fully developed brain!?

My Mascot

We were learning about mascot’s and it’s job’s, and it’s role at events like Commonwealth games and Olympics. So then we had a task  to think about and create our own mascot pretending that the  next Commonwealth games were going to be in New Zealand. We had to
choose appropriate icons to include.

My mascot’s name is Waitangi. I chose the name Waitangi so that all the countries could come together like how the treaty of Waitangi brought two different peoples together. He has a silver fern across his chest. He is also carrying the New Zealand flag on his back. I included these items to show that he is a kiwi icon. Waitangi’s job at the commonwealth games is to give a friendly welcome to visitors. It is important that he does his job properly so that when the visitors leave, they have a good image of New Zealand.

Why I Love Call Of Duty!!!!!!!

Call of Duty Black ops 2 is a Video game featured on PS3 and Xbox 360. Which is made by Treyarch and Activision. That includes Zombie Mode, Campaign Mode, Multiplayer Mode and on Multiplayer…….

You can unlock camos and attachments, like Camos :Gold, Diamond, Siberia and Weaponized 115. And attachments like MMS(Millimetre scanner) it shoots through walls, FMJ (Full metal jacket) which makes it stronger and on snipers Ballistic CPU Which makes it steady aim. My favourite  Gun in multiplayer is DSR 50 which is a slow recoil but strong snipper, and tac-45  with tomahawk and flashbang. I use this class to trickshot with.

Zombies is a very interesting storyline of how two doctors called Dr.Richtofen (Edward Richtofen) and Dr. Maxis  (Ludvig Maxis),they worked on a project experimenting a stone they found named element 115 this all was happening on September 1917 during world war 1. They found this stone (element 115) in an unknown area so they did some testing on it and found that it raises dead soldiers from underneath the battlefield. They named the group of scientist group 935. They find that this rock is can be a power source of different weapons like the wonder waffe dg, thunder gun, ray gun mark 2, and much more they are very powerful. Then in a few months of testing element 115 they find that they could alter time. And then it goes on and on and on….. They steal  the most bravest soldiers they captured from the war and they were from  Japan(Takeo Masaki), America(Tank Dempsey),Russia(Nikolai Belinski) and Mexico (the mexican dies in Call of Duty World at war) and turn them into super soldiers to kill the zombie cause element 115 was automatically raising dead nazi’s in the battlefield (because they tested in Germany). Then it spread all over the world, then …………… We have to wait till the next Treyarch (The Call Of Duty that makes the zombie storyline) Call of Duty Release in 2015.

There are four main companies that make Call of Duty Activision ( the main one that made all Call Of Duties) Treyarch (They helped make all the zombie Call Of Duties like World at War, Black ops 1 and Black ops 2) Infinity ward ( They make just the normal war ones like Mw1, Mw2, Mw3 and Call of Duty Ghost) And sledgehammer games ( They are going to make the new Call of Duty Advance Warfare Coming November the fourth) and just little sponsors like  nokia, n-space etc.
So in conclusion Call Of Duty has to be my favourite Game ever because of the amazing zombie storyline and how you can make people rage on Multiplayer.

My point of View On The Nigerian Kidnappings

The media has not done anything to help or change the situation in our perspective but the the boko haram they probably saw the thoughts and moved to another place. So, it doesn't look changing to us but it could change their location because on the media the president and that are predicting where they are so they move to another spot.

My main point is that the boko haram's perspective could be different to ours.

Why swimming is important in New Zealand!

It only takes small amount of water to drown someone

Statistics - drowning is the third highest cause of accidental/ unintentional deaths in NZ

81 drownings in NZ in 2013

Did you know that there were 81 drownings in NZ last year? Statistics say that drowning is the third most common cause of unintentional deaths in New Zealand.
So it is really important that everybody in NZ can swim 200 metres to be safe.

In New Zealand no one can live further than 80kms away from water. Many people drown in ponds, rivers, lakes, streams and did you know that even creek’s can be hazardous.` If you get caught in a rip current (a flow of water pushing away from land ) you just need to go with the flow until you stop and then you need to swim back to safety.

In conclusion water safety is very important in New Zealand. So make sure you can swim that 200m to be safe.

Level Up Esrah

This level up system is good so we know what we can do to improve my behaviour and there are three levels and level one: means I need to improve managing my self and to be cyber smart.
Level two: Means you can manage yourself but just a not perfect and you are cyber smart.
Level three: Means that you can manage yourself consistently in and out side of class and sit wherever and get your work done.

And I have chosen level 2 because I can manage myself inside class and I am cyber smart and get my work done but I just need to work on sitting with the right people and manage myself outside class and inside class consistently. So next I am aiming to get to Level 3

But I am working towards level 3 by trying to be good outside of class and choosing to work with  good work mates.

Quick Sound Facts

Sound can’t travel through vacuums. The loud noise you create by cracking a whip occurs because the tip is moving so fast it breaks the speed of sound. Link: http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/sound.html'

Did you know: When a whale is underwater, when it sing’s, the sound of it’s song can travel up to 800 km.

Sound is....

Here is my groups first go at trying to explain sound.

Sound is simply vibrations, sound is started by energy or moving molecules. Sounds can be pleasant unpleasant, high, low, soft and hard. We use sound everyday for example we use sound to communicate, listen to music, or even stay safe(alarms).

Fia Fia Rehearsal Feeling

“Senior Samoan group to the stage next.”Said Wyatt.I felt anxious that I might mess it up. It felt like butterflies were in my stomach. I kept on moving around, because when I stood still my legs felt like jelly. But when I stood on stage my nervousness went away and I danced my best for the samoan senior group.

Tiaki Taoga

This morning we completed a speed writing challenge. In just 5 minutes we were expected to Write about our motto this term. Tiaki Taoga. Then we were given 5 minutes to pair share.

Tiaki Taoga  is our motto for this term meaning caring in Maori. It is caring for another and making other people feel good. And caring for our treasures like our people and our community.Making our community safe and fun and taking care of the elders of our community is what we could do to care for our community/our most treasured. Making sure our people are safe and are on the right track to success is an example for  our people.  Our school is also important so we can co-operate with other people and learn to work well with other people, co-operation is a big part of Tiaki Taoga.

Equivalent Fractions DLO.

Equivalent Fractions? It is when a question is like 2/4 = 4/? The way to figure it out is to look at the completed fraction and the number in the incomplete fraction. And if you could figure it out in this case the pattern would be 2x because 2 times 2 is 4 ( that's the number in the incomplete fraction), so that would mean that the denominator of the completed fraction would have to be timed by 2, so that would equal 8. So the answer is 2/4 = 4/8.

So hope yo learnt something about equivalent fractions today.

My Explanation on Empathy.

Empathy is a word that may not be used frequently. Empathy is putting yourself in another person's shoes, it means feeling what another person is feeling.

To show empathy is to put yourself in another person’s shoes. So its like feeling what the other person is feeling.

How would you feel if you were feeling sad about the loss of a loved one and nobody comforted you? What about if nobody understood what you felt like? It would make you feel like your the only one in the world.

To show empathy is if you see someone struggling you should comfort them by seeing if they are alright.

So I think empathy is very important because if there was no empathy it would be a lonely world.

My "Daily Learning Objective" (DLO) about mean, median, mode

Mean, median, mode and range are often used in statistics.

Range: Range is the difference between the highest number and the lowest like for e.g 1,4,7,3,6,9 it would be 8 because the difference between 1 ( the lowest number) and 9 ( the highest number). So that means it is 8.

Mode: Mode is the number that appears the most frequently for e.g 0,2,3,0,3,0. So if you look closely it is 0 because it appears most often.

Median: It means the middle number so what you have to do is put the numbers in order from biggest to smallest and then find the middle number.

Mean: That means the average all you have to do is get all the numbers add them together then times them by how many numbers there are and thats how you do it.

"Adding to sentences" task.

''Adding to sentences'' is a task we were given where we had to add to an unfinished simple sentence:

On the first day of school I was feeling nervous to see what class I was in...
I arrived and saw my friends and teachers and said "Hi!" The bell rang, and we all ran to the hall for Immersion assembly. I was so nervous, but luckily enough I was placed in Room 1. The teachers for this class are Mrs Nua and Mr Barks.

My Waitangi Day trip.

“Get changed we’re going for a ride!” my Dad exclaimed. I was playing B-BalI then I got changed and jumped into the car. While we were driving out the driveway onto the main road I fell asleep.”Yaaawwwnnn, where are we?” I asked my Mum. There was no response, so I looked outside the window and saw a sign saying ‘Pukekohe 1 km and Drury 3 km’ . I thought to myself ,this is a long way away from where I stay Mt Wellington.

Although we stopped at various places like Rebel sport ( to get my brother some cricket gear ) and Burger king (to have lunch), it was a long journey. About 3 - 4 hours, to get to our destination Kariotahi beach. To my surprise the sand was black, I asked my Dad why and he said “because there is lots of iron in the sand”. When I got over the black sand, me and my brother went to the shore. We saw big waves about 2 - 3 meters high and the tide was coming in fast. So we had a challenge where we could see who could run across the waves without getting wet.He won but I put his hat in the water. After that we just walked on the beach and threw sand at each other, and watched other people surf.
“Time to go.”dad said, I ran to the car, with sandy feet and I flopped inside. We drove home, thinking everything was going good but then my Dad stopped the car and exclaimed “ This is the wrong way back home.” He  took out his phone and checked the map and saw that we were going down south not going north back to Auckland, that made the drive about  30 minutes later.

But although we had a very very long drive home, I t
hink that it was cool to spend time with my family at a very cool beach. It was a good experience.
